My Happy Place

Graduate school can be stressful. Between classwork, clinical work, professional and personal responsibilities it can be a bit overwhelming.  My strategy for maintaining sanity is going to my happy place.

Where's that? Oh, well anywhere there is water.  It can be the fountain at the center of town, the waterfall on the nature path, a trip on the ferry or just hanging out at the beach! Seeing water instantly calms me down. If I don't feel like going out, playing in the bathroom sink is fun too (especially since I would have gotten in trouble as a youngin'!).

While there, I enjoy drinking water (hydration is key), being creative either through coloring/painting/doodling or simply writing in my journal. Every now and then I will grab a hot tea or cocoa but essentially, whatever makes me happy is the order of the day.

I make time for myself at least once a week. No one wants a grumpy therapist!

2013 Postcard Swap

Here is my lovely piece of goodness that I created for this years postcard swap!
I had so much fun doing this piece. It happened over a few weeks and I just let
my heart open up and soar with paint, tissue paper, wrapping paper, and mod podge. At one point I think I even used the bottom of a water bottle, and a old grocery store rewards card.

It was mindfulness practice at its best.
I didn't judge the quality of it's beauty.
I kept playing until I figured I couldn't
get anything else on the canvas.
It felt good to release it.
No limits.
No boundaries.
Just creative expression...because I could.

You are the prettiest thing I ever did see!

What a way to just let go!
